Significant real estate activity in Amagansett had been rather quiet the last quarter of 2017, but that appears to be changing—finally, something to thank Harvey Weinstein for! That’s right, the much-vilified and disgraced movie mogul, despite reports of it having been taken off the market, has finally unloaded his manse at 50 Broadview Road.
The transaction supplies us with the answer to this question: How does a property with an original ask of $17.5 million wind up going for $10 million? When you need lots of cash quick for legal fees and most other sources of income have dried up.
The purchaser of the Weinstein residence is listed as Taisho Holdings Inc., which may have a relationship with the international corporate giant Taisho Pharmaceutical Co., headquartered in Japan. According to a company profile, it specializes in over-the-counter medicines and health-related products. It offers products in the areas of “central nervous system, diabetes, immunology/allergy, and infectious diseases; and self-medication products, such as eye drops, constipation suppositories, cold remedies, and hair re-growth treatments.”
You won’t need eye drops to see that 50 Broadview is a special property. With 5 bedrooms and 6.5 baths, the house is located right on Gardiners Bay with 260 feet of sandy beach on about 1.93 acres. The very nice features include five fireplaces, terraces on the second floor, a two-bedroom staff apartment, and an in-ground swimming pool. There is 9,000 square feet of residential space, deeded beach access, and, we’re told, “one of the best screening rooms in the Hamptons,” which—ha, ha!—is a bit of a clue about the owner. Amenities include a large family room/kitchen, screened waterview dining porch, vaulted master suite with private balcony, 4 additional family bedrooms, and 3-car garage. And don’t forget a rooftop deck with views to Montauk. We’ll wager there is not one #metoo poster in the place.
Also catching our attention is 376 Cranberry Hole Road. It, too, is north of the highway, and was purchased for $4,600,000 by the limited liability company Cranberry Holdings. The property is located in the Promised Land section with some of the best bay and organic views in the Hamptons. Spanning 3,200 square feet, the clear cedar exterior with black casement windows and doors is wrapped entirely in covered mahogany decking on two levels overlooking more than 100 acres of windswept natural reserve to the south and views of Gardiner’s Bay to the north and west. The loft-style interior offers a warm minimalist aesthetic with wide-plank white oak flooring, horizontal shiplap panels with modern reveals, custom clear cedar accents, Sonneman lighting, and gallery walls for art displays. The open plan kitchen is finished with raw concrete Cesarstone, marble backsplash, floating white oak shelving, Wolf range, in-wall cappuccino maker, Subzero refrigerator, and other cool stuff.
