Appealing to the Gut

Attack ads. They’ve become a big force in Long Island election campaigns. Several days ago, a little over a week before Election Day this year, I traveled to southern Maryland for a family event, turned on the TV in the motel room, and there they were, hundreds of miles from here: political attack ads, one after another. We rebel against unmuffled cars And curse airports with low-flying jets We’re so sensitive if music’s too loud And we muzzle our barking pets. We legislate against all forms of pollution Be it from ... by Staff Writer
