Jack E. Phillips Sr. Of East Quogue Dies October 14

Jack E. Phillips Sr., lifelong resident of East Quogue, died at home on October 14, surrounded by his family. He was 94.

Born on May 12, 1922, he attended Alfred University, where he met his wife, Mary, of 72 years on a train on Pearl Harbor Day. He served with the Sea Bees Naval Construction Battalion Number 36 in Owkinawa during World War II. He was a retired engineer, who had worked at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and a founding member of the East Quogue Historical Society with a lifelong passion for genealogy.

He was predeceased by a son, Joseph; a daughter, Mary; and grandson, Joseph Phillips. He is survived by his wife; his children, Jack Jr. and wife Renee of Arkport, Bruce N. and wife Isabella of East Quogue, Susan and husband Neil of Maryland, and Burr and wife Patti of New Hampshire; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Leigh Phillips and Raymond Phillips, both of East Quogue.
