Nancy Ludlow Tuckerman, Formerly Of Southampton, Dies August 1

Nancy Ludlow Tuckerman, formerly of Southampton and Manhattan, died on August 1, 2018, in Salisbury, Connecticut. She was 89.

Her parents, Roger and Betty Tuckerman, summered in Southampton at their home on Foster Crossing with their children Cynthia, Nancy and Roger.

Ms. Tuckerman attended the Chapin School in New York and Miss Porter’s School in Farmington, Connecticut. She became social secretary to her friend, Jacqueline Kennedy, at the White House in mid 1963 and continued to work for her until Mrs. Onassis’s death in 1994. In the 1970s she also worked in public relations for Olympic Airways and, with the help of their sponsorship, she helped to start what would become the first New York City Marathon. She also co-authored a revised edition of “Amy Vanderbilt’s Complete Book of Etiquette” in 1995.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Phyllis Gay Palmer, John Gay Jr., Natalie Tuckerman, Oliver Tuckerman and Katharine Tuckerman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 25, at 11 a.m. at the Salisbury Congregational Church on Main Street in Salisbury.

Memorial donations may be made to The Trustees of the Reservations, 572 Essex Street, Beverly, Massachusetts 01915.
