An affordable housing lottery will be held in October for 15 condominiums at Southampton Pointe on County Road 39, according to a release from Southampton Town on Tuesday.

Income-eligible households may apply for the lottery through an initiative with the Long Island Housing Partnership. A new lottery intake application—with a $50 fee—is required to be entered into the lottery. The deadline for the application is 5 p.m. on October 12. The lottery will be held at 3 p.m. on October 25 at Southampton Town Hall, but attendance is not required to be selected.

The two-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath units are available to households who meet income levels established by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Diana Weir, the town’s director of housing and community development, said 10 condos will be available for households that make 80 percent of the area median income, or AMI, and five will be available for households at 120 percent of AMI.

For instance, a two-person household that makes $74,700 a year, or 80 percent of AMI, would pay $233,375, while the same-size income-eligible household, which makes $112,050, or 120 percent of AMI, would pay $350,125. The same amounts would be paid by a four-person household that makes $93,350 or $140,050, respectively.

The 15 units in the housing lottery are a result of a planned development district, or PDD, which was approved by Southampton Town officials in 2012. The units are not appointed with the same top-shelf appliances and furnishings that fair market price condos have, but will be sprinkled throughout the community and not sectioned off.

Under the PDD, the affordable housing is reserved for people who work in Southampton, including schoolteachers, hospital workers, police officers and municipal employees.

According to Ms. Weir, Southampton Town has 220 affordable housing units in the pipeline “at different stages of production,” for more than 1,000 people on the town’s affordable housing registry.
