Split Southampton Village Board Hires Police Officer From Westhampton Beach Department

A divided Southampton Village Board voted last week, 4-1, to hire a police officer who until recently worked for the Village of Westhampton Beach, where in 2021 he was suspended following an off-duty rollover accident. According to a letter of reprimand, he had carried a firearm while under the influence of alcohol and left the scene of the accident without promptly reporting it. Link, 62, of Nevada was arrested by Westhampton Beach Police and charged with misdemeanor DWI on February 8 at 1:07 a.m. Link was pulled over at 32 Oak Street after being observed failing to use a turn signal and running a red light while driving a black Mercedes SUV with Nevada license plates, police said.
