I was pulling out of my driveway. It was 7 p.m. It was dark.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw something whiz by. I slammed on my brakes. Two neighborhood children on e-bikes silently zoomed by. They were going the wrong way on our one-way street. They had no lights, not even reflectors. I missed hitting the second child by inches.
Since so many kids have e-bikes, and since many people now use them for transportation, and since e-bikes are capable of going 30-plus mph, some things need to change. E-bikes need to be regulated and licensed, riders need to follow the rules of the road, and lights should be mandatory.
Otherwise riding an e-bike is an accident waiting to happen.
