Guild Hall’s Creative Lab is a series of interdisciplinary workshops designed and led by the visiting, exhibiting and resident artists of Guild Hall. Each session invites participants to learn about an artist’s practice through both an open lecture and a participatory workshop.

At the next Creative Lab on Tuesday, December 12, at 6 p.m. 2019 Guild Hall Artist Member Exhibition winner Mary Boochever will speak about her work. In developing her own color language, Boochever has explored sources as diverse as Kabala and Goethe’s Color Theory. The Lab will include a tour of the artist’s current Guild Hall exhibition, “Mary Boochever: Chart of the Inner Warp.”

Creative Lab is held in Guild Hall’s Boots Lamb Education Center. Participants are asked to enter the building through the door on Dunemere Lane.

Similarly, Lunch Break at Guild Hall is a series of open, insightful, participatory and short discussions about art. Each Lunch Break is led by Guild Hall’s director of learning Anthony Madonna and focuses on various ways to absorb and interpret the work of the artists on exhibit.

The next Lunch Break on Friday, December 15, at noon will focus on the 84th Artist Members Exhibition. Participants are welcome to join staff for lunch in the Guild Hall Pantzer Gallery or Minikes Garden after the program. Attendees may bring their own lunch or purchase small bites from Louise & Howie’s Coffee Bar in the lobby. Admission for Creative Lab or Lunch Beak is pay what you wish from $6 to $28.

Also coming up at Guild Hall on Monday, December 18, at 4 p.m. is Community in Dialogue with Artist Members Exhibition artist Michael A. Butler who will speak with director of visual arts Melanie Crader for a conversation about his work. The discussion will center around the evolution of Butler’s artwork and its recurring themes of imagined representations of underrecognized peoples based on scarce written documentation.

“One can find inspiration in both the real and imagined worlds,” says Butler who describes himself as an intuitive, self-taught artist, and defines his style as narrative folk art and primarily works in acrylic.

Finally, on Saturday, December 15, at noon, Guild Hall presents Holiday Gingerbread House Decorating. The aroma of cinnamon and spice is in the air and families are invited to join Citarella’s merry team of confectionery experts and make festive displays using frosting, candy, and a fully assembled, freshly baked cookie house.

This program will take place in the Boots Lamb Education Center. Guests should enter off the path on Pondview Lane. The cost is $25 per gingerbread house ($20 for members).

Guild Hall is at 158 Main Street, East Hampton. Visit guildhall.org for details and to register for programming.
