Sag Harbor artists Adriana Barone and Kryn Olson have been friends for many years. They each have their own separate art practice and have often looked to one another for inspiration and critiques.

Last summer, they decided to make a painting together — both working on the same canvas at the same time. Immediately, they felt an inspiring synergy and were thrilled with the outcome. Thus began a series of collaborative works under the acronym KOBA, an arrangement of the artists’ initials (Kryn Olson Barone Adriana). The paintings are bright and optimistic, offering hope in a challenging time.

Using spray paint and graffiti, KOBA creates bold flowers that reference pop culture, subway art and botanicals. Their different skills and background experiences seep into the works. Barone attended Pratt Institute and was active in the downtown New York art scene in the 1980s. She later went on to start her own healing practice. Olson brings her science background and extensive experience as a professional artist. Both are interested in the relationship between humans and plants as well as symbolism within the natural environment.

Two Sag Harbor galleries, Sara Nightingale Gallery, 26 Main Street, and Romany Kramoris Gallery, 41 Main Street, are pleased to present, “I’ll Need a Pumpkin and Some Mice,” new works by KOBA, a simultaneous show opening Saturday, April 13, from 5 to 7 p.m. at both galleries. Kramoris Gallery will be open until 10 p.m. that evening.

The exhibitions will run through April 30th. For more information and images contact sara@saranightingale.com or kramorisgallery@gmail.com
