Wind Blows in Some Heat, Finally

Finally, we have had some hot weather. Last week was hot, but with the wind blowing every day it kept the temps in the 80s. Some of Long Island had temps in the 90s. We had some rain, and a couple of cold fronts moved through the area to knock the humidity down. The water in the bay is 70 degrees and great for swimming and water sports. The ocean is in the mid-60s, and we had very bad rip currents last week that hindered swimming. The fishing was also affected by the wind last week. There were sea bass ... by Al “Big Time” Daniels

A Backstop

We can’t have a free-for-all — we must respect the president, and Joe Biden stepping down is a mistake. What we need to do is shake up the team. We have to replace Kamala Harris with a known, solid personality who has shown the American people their caring nature, but with the fierceness necessary to combat Donald Trump. We need the new vice president to campaign in lockstep with Biden and plan to govern with the Biden policy intact. Joe is the president with a backstop. The public must be protected at all times. Andrew Cuomo is a the person ... 30 Jun 2024 by Staff Writer

Light Show

We arrive at our longest days with a hot southwest wind. Vintage meteorologists, those who existed before satellites, are hard to find. Their ancient opinions on the weather live in the minds of generational farmers and fishermen. As for the summer solstice, the weather on that day will be the prevailing weather of the growing season. The local radio station is old enough, connected enough, to broadcast this observation, and I’m sure many are grateful for the gesture. At the end of this long day, I sit down to take off my boots. All the windows are open, the front ... by Marilee Foster

A Moot Point

The signs on lawns in my neighborhood in the weeks leading up to the Democratic primary for our congressional district heralded the candidacy of John Avlon, an author and CNN figure. His bona fides were his moderate sensible liberal views vs. the progressive Nancy Goroff, who had failed to defeat U.S. Representative Nick LaLota in the previous election cycle for the 1st Congressional District. In today’s political theater, moderation is welcome news to many who are weary of the partisanship that divides friends and neighbors from our government. But just how will Mr. Avlon, the chosen candidate for Democrats, demonstrate ... 28 Jun 2024 by Staff Writer
