The Suffolk presents Felicia Collins, a lead guitarist and featured singer on the “Late Show With David Letterman,” as she plays the iconic album “Sly and the Family Stone Greatest Hits” on Thursday, July 25 at 8 p.m.
Collins is best known around the world as the guitarist and vocalist in the CBS Orchestra on the “Late Show With David Letterman” in the World’s Most Dangerous Band with Paul Shaffer. During her tenure on the show, Collins worked with a list of A-list players that is longer than her ankle-length dreadlocks. Joining her for this show will be her band, The Throw Down, who have also recorded with, written songs for and performed with top artists.
A devoted passion for playing guitar was always present, as far back in her memory as she’s able to recall. Teaching herself to play guitar is one manifestation of her childhood love affair with the arts. Collins was the lead guitarist and vocalist in Al Jarreau’s band and then a member of Cyndi Lauper’s band throughout her Hat Full of Stars tour, wrapping up just weeks before Collins signed on with the new Letterman show, taking the bandstand for its entire run on nightly national and international television. As a member of Shaffer’s band, Collins also performed every year in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony.
Tickets range from $39 to $59 and are available online, along with more information, at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.
