The Suffolk welcomes back Glen Burtnik’s “Summer of Love Concert” on Saturday, July 27, at 8 p.m. This performance is more than just a concert, it’s a “Happening,” an authentic rock festival on one stage, celebrating the classic rock and soul of the 1960s and 1970s — the music of the Woodstock generation.

The show comprises 16 dynamic performers featuring vocalists, a horn section, strings, keyboards, background vocalists and an incredible rock rhythm section enhanced by an exciting psychedelic lighting and video show, faithfully recreating the songs and the psychedelically flavored spirit of that incredible era.

The “Summer of Love Concert” was created by Burtnik, who is an alumnus of Styx. He also performed the role of Paul in the original “Beatlemania” on Broadway and is the touring bassist/vocalist for the current version of ELO, The Orchestra. He’s also a member of The Weeklings and is a major label (A&M) solo recording artist and hit songwriter.

“I’ve always had a playlist on my IPod named ‘The Summer of Love,’” said Burtnik in a recent interview. “I’m actually a hippie at heart. The music of that era is probably what moves me the most.”

Audiences will hear their favorite songs from classic artists like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Marvin Gaye, Joe Cocker, Santana, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, The Temptations, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Band, Jefferson Airplane, Curtis Mayfield, The Association, The Turtles, The Beach Boys, Mamas and the Papas, The Grateful Dead, Country Joe, Procol Harum, Melanie, Ike & Tina Turner, The Rascals, Chicago, Otis Redding, Sly and the Family Stone and others.

Tickets are $59 to $79 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.

Painterly Processes With Silkscreen

From commercial designs to fine art editions, the applications of silkscreen printing are vast. Traditionally a stencil-based process, silkscreen can allow for a design or composition to be reprinted indefinitely as an artist’s edition, or by varying color, placement and materials, can produce monoprints with uniquely experimental results. On Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26, from noon to 4 p.m., The Church will host “Painterly Processes With Silkscreen,” a workshop led by artist Susan Bachemin that offers an introduction to the process while also exploring the medium from an artistic perspective. Over two 4-hour sessions, participants will work through ... by Staff Writer
