This summer, internationally acclaimed British artist Lucy Sparrow makes her much anticipated return to the U.S. to unveil “Feltz Bagels,” an artistic homage to the city’s legendary culinary delicacy and the neighborhood bagel joints of the Lower East Side of Manhattan that made them famous.
Opened on August 2 at TW Fine Art in Montauk, this unique and immersive art show will allow visitors to buy their favorite lunch order handmade in felt and served personally by Sparrow herself.
Sparrow will offer 13 varieties of bagel — each hand-sewn and available filled or plain with a sewn selection of New York staples; choose from a poppy seed bagel with a schmear, a colorful rainbow salt-beef bagel or the everything bagel filled with pastrami and pickles.
“Feltz Bagels” will be Sparrow’s third installation in New York, following on the success of her 1980s bodega, “8 Till Late” which opened in June 2017 and “Lucy’s on 6th,” a felt deli that opened at the Rockefeller Center in October 2019.
“My work is always focused on community experiences and the everyday products that bring us together,” Sparrow says of “Feltz Bagel.” “There really is no greater example of this than the bagel bakeries of New York that have been nourishing much more than the stomachs of the city’s residents since the late 19th century. I’m really excited to bring one of my installations to Montauk for summer 2023.”
“We are so excited to showcase Lucy Sparrow’s newest felt creations at TW Fine Art Montauk,” added Mike de Paola, founder of TW Fine Art. “Lucy’s playful hand-made works invoke a sense of nostalgia and magic, bringing joy to those that become a part of her felt world building.”
Lucy Sparrow’s “Feltz Bagels” are view daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. through September 4 at TW Fine Art, 717 Montauk Highway. For more information, visit tw-fineart.com.
