Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor has unveiled its Mainstage season lineup for 2018.

The season will kick off May 29 with the world premiere of “Fellow Travelers,” a new play by Jack Canfora set during the McCarthy era, when Hollywood actors and writers were being blacklisted for real or perceived communist sympathies. The play examines the relationship between theater artists Arthur Miller and Elia Kazan, and their romantic connections to Marilyn Monroe. Kazan directed the Broadway premiere of “Death of a Salesman,” which Miller wrote among many lauded plays and which Bay Street presented this fall as part of its Literature Live! series.

“‘Fellow Travelers’ explores how the politics of the McCarthy era affected their friendship and how their friendship affected their work,” Bay Street stated.

Then on June 26, “Frost/Nixon” will begin a run on the Bay Street stage. The play by Peter Morgan—who wrote the film “The Queen” and created Netflix’s “The Crown, both about Queen Elizabeth and the British royal family—dramatizes the series of interviews between British journalist David Frost and former President Richard Nixon three years after he resigned. The 2006 play was adapted for the screen in a 2008 film directed by Ron Howard and also written by Mr. Morgan.

The season will conclude with “Evita,” the musical about Eva Perón, the first lady of Argentina from 1946 until her death in 1952. With music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, “Evita” premiered on the West End of London in 1978 and made its Broadway debut in 1979. It had a Broadway revival in 2012.

Bay Street stated that the theater’s revival of “Evita,” which opens July 31, will take a new look at Perón and her ascent to first lady, and will offer its “signature treatment of a large scale musical,” with an intimate experience in a thrust-stage theater that puts the audience close to the characters, like its 2016 presentation of “My Fair Lady.”

Tickets to individual shows are not yet on sale, but Mainstage season subscriptions are. For more information, call 631-725-9500, email boxoffice@baystreet.org or visit baystreet.org.
