Have a hankering to hear yourself on the airwaves? Interested in learning how to produce your own podcast? If so, you’re in luck, because Stony Brook University offers a podcasting program that runs from September through May at both its Southampton and Manhattan campuses.

On Thursday, May 14, at 7 p.m., prospective podcasters are invited to join the program’s co-directors, Kathleen Russo and Tony Dec, as well as technical advisors Frank Imperiale and Imran Azad for a virtual “Open House.” The team will share information and details about Stony Brook’s Audio Podcast Program and current students, who are just finishing the two-semester podcasting course, will be there to answer questions and offer insights. Also taking part will be special guest Shannon Cason, a storyteller and host of Homemade Stories Podcast.

Now entering its third year, Stony Brook’s Audio Podcast Fellows program is the only one of its kind in the United States, and it offers students advanced training in all aspects of podcasting while they develop their own podcast programs.

That means nine months of advanced, hands-on training to introduce students to every aspect of podcasting — from storytelling and writing, sound editing and production, to marketing, branding, distribution and more. Throughout the program, students have the option to work on a variety of shows with production partners, while producing a portfolio that will allow them to take their podcast ideas to the next level or to market.

Students may enroll in either the Southampton or Manhattan campus. Applications for the fall 2020 program are now being accepted. For more information, contact Russo at Kathleen.Russo@stonybrook.edu or visit PodcastFellows.com.
