'Canvas & Cuisine' Benefits Parrish Art Museum

authorStaff Writer on May 7, 2024

The Parrish Art Museum will present “Canvas & Cuisine,” a benefit event celebrating the exhibition “The Art of Food: From the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation,” merging culinary art and visual art to support the museum’s key cultural and education initiatives.

This event, on Sunday, May 26, at 6:30 p.m. features a curated four-course menu by the renowned Chef Angie Mar of Le B., complemented by a selection of private collection wines from Sotheby’s and Wölffer Estate.

“Canvas & Cuisine” marks the Parrish Art Museum’s inaugural Memorial Day event, fusing art, culture, and gastronomy. Chef Angie Mar, renowned for her innovative culinary creations at Le B., will craft an exclusive menu inspired by her signature definition of “Americana,” exploring the rich tapestry of cultures that define contemporary American cuisine.

This year’s dinner features an all-female team, reflecting the museum’s commitment to diversity and women. The event is co-chaired by chef, cookbook author and television personality Aliya LeeKong and entrepreneur, chief brand officer and co-owner of Wölffer Estate Vineyard, Joey Wölffer. From organization to food and wine curation, remarkable women spearhead every aspect of the event. Chef Angie Mar leads the culinary journey, while wine experts Vanessa Conklin from Sotheby’s and Joey Wölffer from Wölffer Estate Vineyard present a private collection of wines — promising an extra layer of sophistication to the evening.

“The Art of Food” exhibition at the Parrish focuses on food as an essential cultural component that builds communities and fortifies human relationships. More than one hundred drawings, paintings, photographs, sculptures, and ceramics by thirty-seven artists from the Jordan Schnitzer Foundation are exhibited. Among these are major postwar figures such as David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Ed Ruscha, and Andy Warhol; contemporary artists including Enrique Chagoya, Jenny Holzer, Alison Saar, Lorna Simpson, and Rachel Whiteread; and artists with deep roots in the East End of Long Island, including Robert Gober, Roy Lichtenstein, and Donald Sultan.

Tickets start at $1,500 at parrishart.org. The Parrish Art Museum is 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill.
