The Accabonac Protection Committee’s third annual “Images of Accobonac” will present a special showing of works by renowned local artist, Ralph Carpentier. Mr. Carpentier’s work will be on display along with a full show featuring many artists’ visions of the beauty of Accabonac Creek. The show will be held October 31 and November 1 at Ashawagh Hall, at the junction of Springs-Fireplace Road and Old Stone Highway in Springs.
The show is curated Pamela Williams. Exhibiting artists will be on hand to welcome guests at an opening reception on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. All artwork will be for sale and a portion of the proceeds will benefit APC.
APC, an all-volunteer group, was organized in 1985 and has been instrumental in preserving Accabonac Creek and Harbor through watchful advocacy. Among areas it has helped protect are the Barbara Hale Refuge, the Maloney Meadow, Louse and Gerard Points. It has hosted public forums on important harbor-related issues and distributes newsletters and pamphlets that inform the public about how they can be an active part of the movement to safeguard Accabonac’s watershed area.
APC has led countless beach cleanups and created a series—Long Live Accabonac— of “best practices” videos now available across the South Fork through local libraries or on YouTube.
