Stella Flame Gallery in Bridgehampton will get a head start on Black History Month with an exhibition that celebrates African Americans and the arts. “Bouquet: Rise! The Pursuit of Nectar” is a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Craig Anthony Miller (CAM) opening Friday, January 19, with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition runs through February 29.
The opening reception will be co-hosted by Dan Gasby, Brooklyn born and bred, in support of a fellow Brooklynite, Black History Month and the paramount influence of Black creatives in the arts.
Craig Anthony Miller (b.1971) was born and raised in Brooklyn and received his MFA from St. John’s University in Queens. Known as “The Artist Of DUMBO,” CAM’s paintings of stained-glass style figures rise through a magical landscape peppered with symbols of freedom, strength, resilience and well-being.
The evening’s festivities include a wine tasting and the kick-off of Oceano Wines’ “Ocean Zero” — a nonalcoholic Pinot Noir, served by Oceano’s founder — Rachel Martin.
A portion of the proceeds from all sales during the artist’s reception will go to benefit the Southampton African American Museum (SAAM). SAAM is the first African American site to be a historically designated landmark in the Village of Southampton and the first Black barbershop to be transformed into a museum in the United States.
