Clock In for '9 to 5: The Musical'

authorStaff Writer on Nov 13, 2024

The Springs Community Theater Company will present “9 to 5: The Musical” at the Bridgehampton High School from November 22 to November 24.

Based on the brilliant film, “9 To 5: The Musical” is directed by Michael Horn and it follows Doralee (April Keough), Violet (Lindsey Sanchez) and Judy (Jayne Freedman) three office workmates who are constantly pushed to the edge by their sexist, narcissistic boss (Glenn Rossi).

But they are about to turn the tables, pour themselves a cup of ambition, and dream up a scheme to bring him down and run the office as it should be run, which all seems good, until the CEO unexpectedly arrives and things begin to unravel.

“9 to 5: The Musical” is based on the 20th Century Fox Picture of the same name, and features an original Oscar, Grammy and Tony Award-nominated score from pop icon Dolly Parton, who also starred in the film. The play’s witty book is by Patricia Resnick, who was the film’s original screenwriter.

The Springs Community Theater Company was founded in 2005 by Barbara Mattson, an office manager at Douglas Elliman in East Hampton and Bridgehampton, and Jayne Freedman, a mother of five who owns Jayne E’s Family Cuts in East Hampton. Both live in Springs, and they formed the grass roots theater company to fill what was perceived as a community theater void in the East Hampton area. Members of the company pitch in to make costumes and build sets.

Performances of “9 to 5: The Musical” are Friday and Saturday, November 22 and 23, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, November 24, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 ($25 seniors) at brownpapertickets.com or by calling 631-848-9143. Bridgehampton High School is at 2685 Montauk Hwy. in Bridgehampton.
