If you can’t remember a time when Frankie Avalon wasn’t a part of your life, you aren’t alone. As a performer, Avalon can look back on a career that spans three generations of music, motion picture and television. The original “teen idol” (and Teen Angel in “Grease”), he appeared on just about every top variety show, guest-starred on numerous dramatic series and starred in several of his own specials.
On Saturday, February 26, at 8 p.m., Frankie Avalon will perform at Suffolk Theater in Riverhead.
With a long string of Gold Record Million-Seller singles and albums, his music became one of the defining sounds of the “Pre-Beatles” rock and roll era. He had 31 singles on the U.S. Billboard chart from 1958 to 1962; and in 1959 alone, he had six solid hits that were in the top 40 including “Venus” and “Why.”
Not one to settle for a single career, Avalon’s 30 motion picture credits include the highly successful “Beach Party” film series, dramatic roles such as “The Dark,” “The Alamo” and “Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea,” and comedic roles in “Skidoo,” “Sail a Crooked Ship,” and “I’ll Take Sweden.”
Tickets for Frankie Avalon at Suffolk Theatre are $65, $79 and $89 available online at SuffolkTheater.com. Suffolk Theater is at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.
