The Suffolk presents one of the greatest rock/fusion guitarists in the world — Greg Howe — on Thursday, August 22, at 8 p.m. The legendary Howe has developed a solid reputation as a technical innovator, particularly for his “hammer-on from nowhere” technique, legato runs, unusual time signatures and linear tapping approach. His self-titled debut album “Greg Howe” is ranked 10th best shred album of all time by Guitar World Magazine.

In addition to being part of the 2018 Grammy Award nominated band Protocol IV, which features Simon Phillips, Ernest Tibbs and Otmaro Ruiz, Howe has produced, written and arranged 10 solo instrumental studio albums along with two collaboration albums with Richie Kotzen of the Winery Dogs. Howe has contributed to a long list of albums/records by other legendary artists such as Dennis Chambers, Victor Wooten, Jason Becker, Billy Sheehan, Marco Minneman, and Eddie Jobson.

He’s also made a name for himself as a stellar sideman and session musician with artists such as Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Rihanna, Enrique Iglesias and many more. His TV appearances include The Grammys, American Music Awards, The Tonight Show, The Today Show, The Billboard Awards and Teen Choice Awards, just to name a few.

The show will also feature special guest Sammy Boller. Hailed by Guitar World Magazine as “one of electric guitar’s most promising names,” Candyrat recording artist Sammy Boller is bringing new life to the world of instrumental rock music With millions of total streams and over 200,000 followers on social media, guitarist Sammy Boller is a force to be reckoned with.

“My guitar playing has always been about plugging into an amp and blowing the walls down,” Boller said. “I grew up wanting to be like Eddie Van Halen and Randy Rhoads, but over time I’ve found my own dark and aggressive style. These days, my dream as a musician is to make people feel as connected to the cosmos as I feel when I play the guitar. I’d love nothing more than that.”

Tickets are $45 to $65 at thesuffolk.org. The Suffolk is at 118 East Main Street in Riverhead.

Painterly Processes With Silkscreen

From commercial designs to fine art editions, the applications of silkscreen printing are vast. Traditionally a stencil-based process, silkscreen can allow for a design or composition to be reprinted indefinitely as an artist’s edition, or by varying color, placement and materials, can produce monoprints with uniquely experimental results. On Wednesday and Thursday, September 25 and 26, from noon to 4 p.m., The Church will host “Painterly Processes With Silkscreen,” a workshop led by artist Susan Bachemin that offers an introduction to the process while also exploring the medium from an artistic perspective.
