On Sunday, June 30, Guild Hall completed its two-year capital improvements project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony to christen the newly redesigned, upgraded and renamed Hilarie and Mitchell Morgan Theater, formerly known as the John Drew Theater. The Morgans were on hand to pull the red ribbon officially opening the theater that now bears their name. The event included a brief performance by Music From The Sole, a 2023 Guild Hall William P. Rayner Artist-in-Residence.

The renovation of the theater was a collaboration with Peter Pennoyer Architects and theatrical consultants Apeiro Design. New enhancements include wider, more comfortable seating with greater row-to-row depth, a steeper rake for improved sightlines a new flexible social space at the rear of the theater, an audio lift system for improved sound for every art form, from symphonies to cinema, advanced lighting, video systems, a remote-controlled camera system for live streaming and recording, a relocated control booth and new lighting positions in the balcony.

To inaugurate the reopening of the theater, Guild Hall will host a benefit concert with Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor and singer Billy Porter, on Friday, July 12 at 8 p.m. Porter is a Grammy, Emmy and two-time Tony Award-winning actor and singer widely known for his tour-de-force performance in Broadway’s “Kinky Boots” and his portrayal of Pray Tell in the FX series, “Pose.”
