Inspirational Music Films at East Hampton Library

This February and March, the East Hampton Library will present “Music as Inspiration Film Series,” which will be offered in collaboration with The Hamptons Festival of Music. The series will be offered on consecutive Fridays from February 14 to March 14.

“During challenging times, music is more essential than ever, providing unity, inspiration, and the joy that lifts our spirits,” said Steven Spataro, head of Adult Reference at the library. “The East Hampton Library is proud to partner with The Hamptons Festival of Music to present five unforgettable films.”

The schedule:

Friday, February 14, 1 p.m. — “Moonstruck” (1987) directed by Norman Jewison. Starring Cher, Nicolas Cage and Olympia Dukakis, the film won Oscars for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress and Best Screenplay.

Friday February 21, 3 p.m. – “Sing” (2016) directed by Kristof Deák. Set in 1990s Budapest, Hungary, the film stars Dorka Gasparfalvi, Dorottya Hais and Zsofia Szamosi and was won the Oscar for Best Live Action Short.

Friday February 28, 3 p.m. – “The Sound of Metal” (2019) directed by Darius Marder. The film stars Riz Ahmed, Olivia Cooke, and Paul Raci and won Oscars for Best Sound and Best Film Editing.

Friday March 7, 3 p.m. – “Seymour: an Introduction” (2014) directed by Ethan Hawke. The film follows Seymour Bernstein, a beloved pianist, teacher and true inspiration who shares insights from an amazing life. The film also features Ethan Hawke and Sam Bachelder.

Friday March 14, 3 p.m. – “Touching the Sound: The Improbable Journey of Nobuyuki Tsujii” (2015) directed by Peter Rosen. The film tells the story of Nobuyuki Tsujii, a Japanese pianist blind from birth, who becomes a musical ambassador for the world. Also featured in the film is Nick Asano.

All screenings are free and take place in the library’s Baldwin Room. Register at the library’s Adult Reference Desk or call 631-324-0222 ext. 3. Registration can also be done through Eventbrite. A Night of Comedy With Wil Sylvince

Comedian Wil Sylvince will perform a special Valentine’s Day comedy show on Saturday, February 15, at 8 p.m. at Canoe Place Inn in Hampton Bays. Doors open at 7 p.m. Sylvince is one of the most explosive comedians performing today. His comedic performances on Comedy Central, HBO’S “Def Comedy Jam” and Showtime all garnered standing ovations, a feat rarely seen accomplished by many performers.
