Update: The Southampton Cultural Center (scc-arts.org) is closed until March 29. The remaining performances of "Sherlock's Secret Life" by Boots on the Ground Theater have been cancelled. Ticket holders will receive a full refund in the next 7 to 10 days.

The game's afoot in Boots on the Ground Theater’s upcoming production, "Sherlock's Secret Life," a modern twist on the Arthur Conan Doyle’s most famous fictitious character, Sherlock Holmes. The play will run March 6 through 22 at the Southampton Cultural Center.

Directed by Josephine Teresi-Wallace with historically inspired costumes and set pieces designed by producer and Boots Theater founder Bonnie Grice, the play begins with an aging Doctor Watson deciding to tell the shocking and unknown story of his famous detective friend’s first case. Filled with intrigue, mystery, love and laughs, “Sherlock’s Secret Life” revisits Holmes and Watson as they take on their first case together — the mystery of a beautiful young woman who's lost her memory.

The play also has the pair going up against the man who will become Sherlock's arch-enemy— Professor Moriarty. Rounding out the story are two familiar characters in Sherlock's world — Inspector Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson.

"My mission in starting Boots on the Ground Theater has been to bring history to life, through great stories and period-inspired sets and costumes,” said Grice. “There's so much to learn from history, especially the Victorians, and who better than the legendary sleuth himself, Sherlock Holmes? And look for some added steampunk elements in the costumes and set design. A tribute to the cutting edge history of Holmes."

Tickets for “Sherlock’s Secret Life are $25 (students $15). Also available are dinner theater packages for $70 in conjunction with Claude’s, Plaza Café or Le Chef in Southampton. The play runs Friday, March 6, through Sunday, March 22, at Southampton Cultural Center, 25 Pond Lane, Southampton. For tickets, visit SCC-arts.org.

On Saturday, March 14 at 2 p.m., a free matinee of the play will be presented for area students and will be followed by a Q&A with Detective Sergeant Lisa Costa from the Southampton Police Department. Seating is limited. Call Kirsten Lonnie at 631-287-4377 for details.
