Grammy-nominated jazz pianist and vocalist Judy Carmichael will perform at a benefit for the Community House of Old Whalers’ Church in Sag Harbor on Saturday, June 5.

Ms. Carmichael, who lives in Sag Harbor and is known for her classic jazz piano and swing music, will be performing fresh from an extended South American tour and recent concerts at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, celebrating the music of Fats Waller. She is returning to the Old Whalers’ Church “stage” for the first time in 10 years. Her concert there in 1990, for the Sag Harbor Chamber of Commerce, was the first concert presented at the Old Whalers’ Church and set the stage for future concerts by other notables, including Julie Andrews.

The Community House of the Old Whalers’ Church is home to the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry, Sag Harbor Youth Center, Southampton Town Counseling Center, Alcoholics Anonymous, Ladies Village Improvement Society, Weight Watchers, Conservation Synagogue of the Hamptons and Comunidad Cristiana Internacional.

Ms. Carmichael said she was happy to participate in a fund-raiser for the community house.

“I love the Old Whalers’ Church, its history and its architecture,” she was quoted as saying in a press release issued about the upcoming show. “I’m devoted to Sag Harbor, and will always support anything that helps the community, as these programs at Old Whalers’ Church do so well.”

The money raised at this weekend’s concert will help pay for improvements to the community house and the many services provided there.

A patrons pre-concert cocktail party will be held in a private home starting at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The show itself will begin at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $25. Patron’s admission is $50 and includes the pre-concert cocktail party and preferred concert seating. Tickets are tax deductible to the fullest amount allowed by law.
