Musicians Daniel Koontz and Nancy Remkus perform in the final concert of Songwriters Share, a series benefiting local charities, on Friday, June 7, at the Universalist Meetinghouse of the South Fork. The 7:30 p.m. concert benefits the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry.
Mr. Koontz’s work can be described as diverse, as his style ranges from funk to blues to country or straight-up pop. Ms. Remkus has been sharing music in her hometown at Sag Harbor Elementary School’s morning program for more than 25 years.
Concert admission is $20 ($15 seniors and students). A reception will follow the concert at the UU Meetinghouse, 977 Sag Harbor/Bridgehampton Turnpike.
His catalog includes everything from tongue-in-cheek parodies to heartfelt ballads with drummer Bruce Deyer and guitarist Brett King. While the emphasis will be on the music, Mr. Koontz will take a few moments to explain the sources of inspiration for his original music.
She was recognized for her work in 1989 when she was named the Suffolk County Performing Artist of the Year. The now-retired elementary school teacher’s music can be described as a blend of Joan Baez, Toni Mitchell, a dash of the 1970s show, Electric Company, and a pinch of Mr. Rogers.
