The work of artist Marilyn Church is currently on view at The Lucore Art in Montauk. The show features 17 fine art paintings by Church and runs through November 2.
At the age of 82, when many artists are slowing down, Church’s career is flourishing and she is both a fine art and courtroom artist. She notes that she will work as long as she can, since painting and drawing are her greatest fulfillment.
In fact, 2022 has been one of Church’s most active years yet as an artist. In September, she had a solo exhibition in Manhattan at the Susan Eley Gallery. Eley also plans to show her work in her Hudson, N.Y. gallery. Church has continued her courtroom art with TV assignments for several trials this past year, most notably the trial of New York cult leader Larry Ray, where she produced more than 25 drawings in three weeks. This summer, she produced 38 drawings for a documentary about a Holocaust love story, that is due to appear on Peacock TV this winter. The drawings are being considered for book publication as well.
A resident of Amagansett for nearly 40 years , Church has been active in the East End art scene, exhibiting in more than a dozen galleries and museums. She has been in the Springs Invitational continually since 1998 up to 2022. She also won Guild Hall awards in years 2019, 2016 and 2008.
