As its next “Friday Nights Live!” online offering on Friday, May 8, at 5 p.m., the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill presents new media and video art pioneer peter campus [sic], who will discuss his groundbreaking career in an illustrated talk with museum director Terrie Sultan. The talk, open to the public, will be followed by a live Q&A with campus and Sultan.
“I’m delighted to invite peter campus to our next ‘Friday Nights Live!’ program. Not only has his work been greatly inspired by the waters of Long Island, but his meditative video work on nature and self-investigation resonates deeply with how we contemplate life through a screen during this time of lockdown,” said Corinne Erni, senior curator of ArtsReach and special projects at the Parrish.
Renowned for his pioneering career that encompasses a wide range of media including early video art, photography, and digital video, campus uses an array of video technologies to explore topics reaching from human psychology to the natural landscape. His recent digital video projects transform footage of landscapes and interiors into painterly scenes through sophisticated digital techniques. campus, who is represented in the Parrish Art Museum collection, lives and works in East Patchogue.
