For the last 20 years, David Billingham, a Hampton Bays resident, has been the camp director of The Southampton Fresh Air Home. But Billingham has also long had a passion for writing, and this past summer, published his first book, “The Life Inside Maggie Pincus.”

The book poses many questions — among them “What would life be like living inside the human body?” “What if you were a 12-year-old orphan saved from a life of servitude with an awful stepmother and three evil stepbrothers?” “What if your new life consists of being smaller than an ant and you are learning about a war, in which the best outcome largely depends on you?”

Billingham answers these questions and more in “The Life Inside Maggie Pincus,” the first in his imaginative and fantastical trilogy. The book takes readers on a journey with 12-year-old girl Maggie as she maneuvers through a not-so-average living environment. She soon learns it’s up to her to figure things out as she attempts to bridge the gap between two worlds.

On Sunday, December 1, at 1:30 p.m. Billingham will take part in his first book signing event at House of Wellness, 4 Springville Road in Hampton Bays. Light refreshments will be served. Billingham is currently working on his second book, which he hopes to be available by next spring. Learn more at davidbillingham.com.
