As a fresh and melodic tribute for Mother’s Day weekend, Music for Montauk will present an ensemble consisting of violinist Sarah Whitney, violist and composer Jessica Meyer, and pianist Miloš Repický with guests cellist Ashley Bathgate and mezzo soprano Sarah Nelson Craft. The program features songs, chamber and solo works by Brahms, Dvorák and others, as well as original new music by Meyer. The concert will take place on May 6 at the Montauk Public School Auditorium.

Czech composer Antonín Dvorák’s nostalgic “Songs My Mother Taught Me” frames a whimsical mix of classical and romantic chamber music, song and new works.

“Dvorák’s song ‘Songs My Mother Taught Me’ is about connecting generations through music and the humanity of that experience,” said Repicky. “With this program we take that precious interaction as a starting point and broaden the experience in some beautifully unexpected and fun ways.”

With this concert, Music for Montauk’s distinguished performers Whitney, Meyer and Repicky welcome new collaborators, Craft and Bathgate. Music for Montauk’s fresh and dynamic approach to classical music promises an unpretentious, playful and musically rich evening to honor mothers, celebrate spring and kick off the season.

“The spring concert brings the community together in a great way after a long winter,” Repicky said. “There’s a positive energy and anticipation of what is to come!”

Music for Montauk’s Spring Concert has annually been a joyous musical and social start to the season. After two pandemic years, Music for Montauk is reviving the tradition and bringing the community together. The concert will take place Friday, May 6, at 6 p.m., at the Montauk Public School Auditorium, 50 South Dorset Drive, Montauk. Admission is free and masks are required.
