Performer Olga Tomkowiak Comes to The Church

authorStaff Writer on Jun 3, 2024

Interdisciplinary artist and performer Olga Tomkowiak joins The Church for a performance of “Visual Poetry” on Friday, June 14, from 6 to 7 p.m.

Accompanied by words written by Frederic Tuten, Tomkowiak will show a selection of short visual poems which incorporate body, object, space and sound. By exploring the connection between them, Tomkowiak creates worlds and scenarios in which the ordinary becomes odd and the distinction between subject, object and space begin to blur. Tomkowiak describes her practice as a mixture of theater, dance, poetry and fun. This performance has been programmed as part of Tomkowiak’s 2024 residency at The Church.

Olga Tomkowiak is a multi-media artist, photographer and performance artist from Germany. Using different types of media, everyday objects and a variety of tools, Olga creates a visual theater. Her approach to art is playful, using humorous elements and imagination to question and explore situations that occur in everyday life. Her works have been displayed in exhibitions around Germany, Austria and the United States. She also performs as an actress on stage and in films.

Tickets are $10 (members free) at thechurchsagharbor.org. The Church is at 48 Madison Street, Sag Harbor.
