Twenty-four-year-old Chinese pianist Ying Li is the first prize winner of the 2021 YCA International Auditions and recipient of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival Prize.

Southampton Cultural Center’s Rising Stars Piano Series presents Ling Yi on Saturday, May 6, at 6 p.m. Li will perform excerpts from Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin,” Liszt’s “Concert Paragraph on Verdi’s Rigoletto,” and the breathtaking 7th Sonata by Prokofiev.

Ying Li began piano lessons at age five in China then moved to Philadelphia in 2012 at age 14, to study at the Curtis Institute of Music. After receiving her Bachelor of Music degree in 2019, she got her Master’s degree at The Juilliard School with Robert McDonald, and continues her studies with him for the prestigious Artist Diploma.

Li has performed with leading orchestras such as The Philadelphia, the New Jersey Symphony and L ’Accademia del La Scala. She made her NYC recital debut at Carnegie’s Zankel Hall and her Washington, D.C. debut at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. Upcoming and recent recitals include Sala Verdi in Milan, Musica Insieme Bologna, Teatro Alighieri in Ravenna, Fazioli Pianoforti in Sacile and the Bechstein Series at the Konzerthaus in Berlin. She has received top awards in numerous competitions including the Sarasota Artist Series Piano Competition, and the International Liszt Piano Competition for Young Pianists.

As an avid chamber musician, Li has appeared at prestigious festivals including the Verbier Festival, Academy, the Artists Series Concerts in Sarasota, and the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival.

Tickets are $20 in advance at scc-arts.org ($25 at the door). Students under 21 attend at no charge. Southampton Cultural Center’s Levitas Center for the Arts is at 25 Pond Lane, Southampton Village.
