The East End’s favorite Beatles band returns to the Bay Street Theater to perform the “Moondogs’ Mystery Tour” show on Friday, April 25, at 8 p.m. The show will feature all the technicolor goodness of The Beatles’ “Magical Mystery Tour,” plus a handpicked selection of hits — along with a few deep cuts — from the group’s touring years, 1963–1966.
As many Long Islanders know, The Moondogs have been faithfully covering the music of the Beatles for a long time. Over the last 11 years, they’ve done special Bay Street shows featuring every Beatles’ album from “Rubber Soul” to “Abbey Road.” But somehow, “Magical Mystery Tour” got lost in the shuffle. So in 2025, it’s the “Moondogs’ Mystery Tour.”
The Moondogs are: Fred Gilde (keys/vocals), Mick Hargreaves (guitar/vocals), Dan Koontz (keys/vocals), Joe Lauro (bass/vocals), Jeff Levitt (guitar), Mark Pohl (drums/vocals) and Michael Schiano (guitar/vocals).
“‘Magical Mystery Tour’ might not always get the love it deserves, but we think of it as ‘Sgt. Pepper,’ part two,” said Michael Schiano, the band’s musical director. “Most people don’t realize that the Beatles started recording ‘Magical Mystery Tour’ only a few weeks after they’d finished ‘Sgt. Pepper.’ They were still operating at that amazing psychedelic peak. That’s why we’re so excited about bringing it all to life on the Bay Street stage.”
Tickets for the show are available at baystreet.org or 631-725-9500. Bay Street Theater is on Long Wharf in Sag Harbor.
