East End residents will have an opportunity to dance the night away to the sounds of salsa, mambo, meringue, bolero, chachacha and African rhythms as part of “Salsa Dance Party: La Orquesta Parrish” in the Parrish Art Museum’s concert hall on Saturday, August 15, from 8 to 10 p.m.
“Salsa Dance Party: La Orquesta Parrish” has been organized by José Obando, founder of the International Salsa Museum and salsa consultant to the musical instruments department of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he is helping to expand the collection and develop a Latino audience for the Met’s Multicultural Initiative Program Department.
The first half hour of the program will feature a lesson on percussion and dancing by José Obando. The remainder of the program will be a dance party, with music provided by La Orquesta Parrish, an ensemble of six musicians, including a lead singer who plays maracas and guiros, a bass player and backup singer, a piano player, a percussionist (conga, bongo), a trumpet player, and an additional vocalist.
Admission to “Salsa Dance Party: La Orquesta Parrish” is $20, or $15 for Parrish members, and includes complimentary drinks.
