On Saturday, October 22, Keyes Art in Sag Harbor hosts a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to open Ted Hartley’s new exhibition “Stories in Color,” featuring three new paintings from the artist’s Ukraine Series. The exhibition features new paintings and works on paper by Hartley in his third solo show with Keyes Art.

Hartley’s Ukraine Series is dedicated to the Ukrainian people; the proceeds from the sale of these works will go to the Olena Zelenska Foundation, a newly formed charity of the First Lady of Ukraine.

“I want to inspire others to think of creative ways to use their talents to support the defenders in Ukraine as they fight against this brutal invasion,” said Hartley.

Artist George Negroponte writes: “Making art is a call to action regardless of any predicament on a given day because necessity pokes hard. The Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, provided a hefty reason for Ted Hartley to make a stand: His painting ‘Kyiv, Pro Patria’ is a directed punch thrown in outrage. The image registers a fiery glow as the artist denounces the invasion and laments the victims of war. It is a plea for freedom.

“Hartley’s paintings always go beyond what is known; that is his trademark. ‘Pro Patria’ is a visual finding forged by fevered compression. It is a blazing comet.”

Ted Hartley’s “Stories in Color” runs through December 1. Keyes Art is at 45 Main Street in Sag Harbor.
