The Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery Museum in East Hampton opens a new exhibition titled, “Caroline M. Bell (1874-1970) A Peconic Bay Impressionist” on Friday, June 17. The show runs through July 18.

Caroline M. Bell was the founder of the Peconic Bay Impressionist art movement that began in Mattituck at the turn of the 20th century. With seven other independent women, Bell and her plein-aire artist group traveled extensively. By 1917, they had made two trips to Alaska. Other favorite painting haunts by the women, aside from both shores of Long Island, were Woodstock, New York and Gloucester, Mass. The Peconic Bay Impressionist art movement eventually included several hundred members and continues to this day.

The Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery Museum is located at 36 James Lane, East Hampton. Exhibition hours are Friday to Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information call 631-604-5700 or visit gardinermillcottagegallery.org.
