On Monday, December 16, The Church co-founder Eric Fischl and executive director Sheri Pasquarella announced the receipt of a grant award from the Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation for the forthcoming exhibition “Eternal Testament,” which is being curated by Jeremy Dennis and Meranda Roberts and will open in March 2025.
“We are deeply grateful to the Gardiner Foundation and are humbled to join the esteemed list of fellow recipients, including Raynham Hall Museum, the Jewish Historical Society of Long Island, Long Island Maritime Museum, Nassau Museum, The New-York Historical Society, Sag Harbor Historical Society, and Cooper Union,” said The Church in a statement. “Congratulations to all the winners and deepest thanks to the board of the Gardiner Foundation and to Kathryn M. Curran, its executive director.”
The Robert David Lion Gardiner Foundation, established in 1987, primarily supports the study of Long Island history and its role in the American experience. Robert David Lion Gardiner was, until his death in August 2004, the 16th Lord of the Manor of Gardiner’s Island. The Gardiner family and its descendants have owned Gardiner’s Island since 1639, obtained as part of a royal grant from King Charles I of England. The foundation is inspired by Robert David Lion Gardiner’s personal passion for New York history.
