Edith Gawler and Bennett Konesni are not only household faces and names on the East End, but they are household sounds.
She grew up in Maine as a member of the Gawler Family Band. He is co-founder of Sylvester Manor, a 243-acre educational farm on Shelter Island, sited on a piece of land that has been in his family since 1652. Together, they are musicians and work song scholars who play old-time fiddle, banjo music, Swedish dance tunes, and farmer’s ballads and hollers.
The duo will perform folk and roots music during the annual Bluegrass Labor Day weekend event on Friday, August 31, starting at 6 p.m. at the Parrish Art Museum, located at 279 Montauk Highway in Water Mill, as part of the “Music on the Terrace” series.
Admission is $12, or free for members, children and students, and be sure to bring chairs and blankets to sit outside on the lawn and terrace. A classic summer barbecue buffet and specialty drinks, as well as other menu items, will be available for purchase from the Golden Pear Café.
