The Second Annual Montauk Film Festival Return

After a year hiatus, the Montauk Film Festival (MFF) is gearing up again this summer to host a full caliber, week-long festival running Sunday, July 25, through Sunday, August 1, and with screenings of 25 movies in five different categories: Environmental, Surf and Skate, Dramatic, Comedic, and Social/Cultural Documentary.

Headlining the festival will be Oscar-nominated, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Josh Fox who will screen the North American premiere of his latest film “The Truth Has Changed” in the Environmental category.

Other official festival selections include:

Surf and Skate: “Riss” Peter Hamblin, director

Dramatic: “Blue Fire” Nick Ronan, director

Comedic: “Drunk Bus” Garineh Narzarian, director

Social/Cultural Documentary: “Super Fan” Giancarlo Dittamo, director

MFF will screen films at Solé East Resort, The Montauk Beach House, Hero Beach Club, Tauk, and at the historic Second House. Movie-goers should bring picnic blankets and chairs to enjoy movies under the stars. Panel discussions will take place throughout the week beginning at 7 p.m. Topics will include: Old and New Montauk, Surf/Skate Culture, Local Environmental Challenges and Solutions, Rebuilding the Cinema Industry Post COVID.

The festival is also dedicated to supporting and promoting local filmmakers and films shot on location in Montauk and the East End. This year, it has selected a number of these films, including: “Reality” Layne Dupon, director; “M.U.S.T.” Bartholomew Schwarz, director; “Kaleidoscope” Matthew Campanella, director; and “Monster Man Mundus” Tom Garber, director.

Montauk Film Festival was established to deliver an educational and entertaining experience for the residents of Montauk and surrounding areas. Its mission is to promote films that inspire awareness about the environment through themes of conservation, sustainability and athleticism as well as support local filmmakers. Net proceeds of the MFF 2021 will go to environmental educational partners South Fork Sea Farmers, the Montauk Public Library and Lazy Point Farms.
