The Parrish Art Museum kicks off its Summer Jazz on the Terrace series with Elegant People Fusion Explosion — a quartet that celebrates the jazz fusion music of the 1970s and 1980s. Presented on Friday, July 1, at 6 p.m. as part of Hamptons Jazz Fest and in partnership with The Jam Session, the concert features Eric Schugren, saxophone; Randolph Hudson, bass; Fred Gilde, keyboard; and Claes Brondal, drums.

In the spirit of the fusion genre, Elegant People combines jazz harmonies and improvisation with funky grooves and Latin and rock rhythms, drawing influence from guitarists Pat Metheny and John Abercrombie, bands like Weather Report, and jazz icons including the trailblazing trumpet player/composer Miles Davis. Dedicated to bringing this timeless music to a new audience, the quartet gives fusion new life and exposure, while remaining true to the genre’s hallmark sounds and effects. At the Parrish, Elegant People will play a mix of fusion hits and soundscapes, providing a carefully curated journey back to the heydays of the style.

Hamptons Jazz Fest, produced by The Jam Session, Inc., is a series of performances that bring world-class musicians in the styles of jazz, Latin and world music to a diverse cross-section of populations on the East End of Long Island. Performances are held in iconic venues throughout July, August and September. The Jam Session, Inc. is a not-for-profit production and education arts organization that produces live jazz music, including Latin and World Music, through performances, recording, broadcast, and educational opportunities for the East End of Long Island.

Tickets for the concert are $15 ($5 for members and students). Advance ticket purchase with preevent registration is recommended. Limited tickets will be available at the door. This event takes place on the museum’s terrace, rain or shine. Bring your own chairs, no museum seating is available. Food, drink and picnic baskets are available to purchase in the Café at the Parrish. Preorder options are available on the website. No outside food or drink is permitted.

The Parrish Art Museum is at 279 Montauk Highway, Water Mill. Visit parrishart.org for details.
