Members of The Band and the Levon Helm Band will take the stage at Suffolk Theater in “The Weight Band,” performing on Saturday, August 26, at 8 p.m.

The Weight Band performs original songs, as well as classics from The Band. Jim Weider leads The Weight Band and was a 15-year member of The Band and the Levon Helm Band. In 2013, The Weight Band was founded inside the famous Woodstock barn of Helm, who died in 2012. After his death, Weider felt inspired by Helm to carry on the musical legacy of this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group.

Shines Like Gold, their new album, draws on the sounds of roadhouse rock, funky swamp pop, blues, country soul and folk music. Members of The Weight Band include renowned guitarist Jim Weider (The Band, Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band, Jim Weider Band), keyboardist Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band), bassist Albert Rogers (Jim Weider Band, Jimmy Vivino), drummer Michael Bram (Jason Mraz) and keyboardist Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts). This combination of artists, all with deep appreciation and knowledge of music, come together to create what Weider calls the “Woodstock Sound.”

Tickets are $49 to $59 at thesuffolk.org. Suffolk Theater is located at 118 East Main Street, Riverhead.
