The Thirty Squared artist collective will present a juried art show at East Hampton’s historic Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery from November 5-21. A meet the artists reception will be held on Saturday, November 6, from 4 to 7 p.m.

The cottage serves as a museum and exhibition center for local artists and the group’s best selections will be on display in the show, with selections by special guest jurist, East Hampton Mayor Jerry Larsen.

Thirty Squared was born as a daily painting challenge. During the chilly days of January 2015, landscape artist Aubrey Grainger posted a 30-day challenge on Facebook to her fellow artist friends. A gathering of like-minded artists met daily for a month on social media creating “thirty squares” of art. Grainger’s challenge paid off. The spark of creativity lit up the group’s first winter and has brought forth a visual paradise of paintings, drawings, mixed media, and photography every year since. These seasoned local artists continue to be actively engaged in work inspired by the beauty of the East End.

This is the group’s first collaboration with the Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery, which was founded in 2017. A portion of art sales go to benefit the gallery which is owned by the Village of East Hampton. The property serves as a museum featuring East Hampton’s earliest art colony (1870-1900), and as an exhibition center for local artists.

Artists participating in the show are: Linda Barone, Mary Anne Bennett, Bobbie Braun, Susan D’Alessio, Debra Domingos, Patricia Feiler, Gail Gallagher, Hugh Gallagher, Aubrey Grainger, Pat Hadley, Judy Keller, Ann Lombardo, Jean Mahoney, Katherine Milliken, Maryanne Renz, Joanne Rosko, Eileen Dawn Skretch, Neill Slaughter, Cynthia Sobel, Lisa Steiner, Pamela Thomson, Maureen Travers, and Pam Vossen.

The Gardiner Mill Cottage Gallery is at 36 James Lane, East Hampton. Gallery hours are Friday through Monday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 631-604-5700 for details.
