‘Virtual Visit’ With Gil Goldstein And Paolo Bartolani

The Montauk Library’s “Virtual Visits” series with artists and musicians in their studios on the East End and New York City continues with “Between The Wind and The Shrubs” (or “Tra il vento e gli arbusti”), a 30-minute video featuring composer, arranger and accordionist Gil Goldstein and pianist Paolo Bartolani, the artistic director of Rites of Spring Music Festival. The video performance premieres on Wednesday, November 24, at 7:30 p.m. and will be available for streaming on demand through December 31 via Montauk Library’s videos for general audiences.

Recorded at the Jamesport Meeting House, in the performance Goldstein and Bartolani perform new arrangements of traditional songs such as “Londonderry Air” (Danny Boy), “Amazing Grace” and “Oh, Shenandoah” as well as pieces by Dvorák, Debussy, and Morricone.

Goldstein’s first love is the accordion, but he is well known as a pianist and keyboard artist and arranger. Throughout his extensive career as a musician, composer and arranger, he has performed with numerous jazz luminaries and composed scores for several films. Among his numerous distinctions are five Grammy Awards.

In addition to being a pianist, Bartolani is a musicologist and music manager. He performs as a soloist and as a member of chamber ensembles in Europe and the United States. He is the founder and artistic director of Rites of Spring Music Festival based in Southold which, in only a few years’ time, has become the premier classical and contemporary music festival on the North Fork. Now in its sixth edition, it is dedicated to presenting performances of contemporary sounds in an outdoor setting that encourages people to open their ears and body to music and let their imaginations fly freely.
