Seven artists and photographers from the East End will showcase works that represent their visions of nature and wildlife in “Visions of Nature,” an art exhibit opening this weekend at Quogue Wildlife Refuge. An artist’s reception will be held on Saturday, August 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. and on display will be paintings, photographs, and mixed media works by Steve Alpert, Jean Arena, Marissa Bridge, Kevin Ferris, Susan Gilbert, John Renner, and Rob Seifert.
Dominating much of the artists’ subjects is the world around them. Photographers Ferris, Renner, Seifert and Gilbert have long used nature and wildlife as their muse; while Alpert, Arena, and Bridge have more recently been lured by the beauty of the East End. But, they share in common a deep reverence for nature and our animal friends and all are eager to support the Quogue Wildlife Refuge.
The exhibit is curated by Elizabeth Anne Hartman of Hartman On Hudson, a Quogue based art consulting, services and resources company. A portion of sales from the show will benefit Quogue Wildlife Refuge. The 305-acre, non-profit nature preserve, founded in 1934, is open to the public 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset. In addition to its 7 miles of trails that include a variety of habitats, such as the Pine Barrens, bogs, wetlands, a field, and a tidal estuary, it is also home to permanently injured wildlife including owls, a falcon and a fox and other native New York animals.
Quogue Wildlife Refuge is at 3 Old Country Road in Quogue. For details call 631-653-4771 or visit QuogueWildlifeRefuge.org.
