Women’s Art Center of the Hamptons (WACH) will travel to New York City on Sunday, September 22, to celebrate New York Textile Month. The public is invited to join this cultural tour that will focus on the use of textiles to examine history, social constructs and self-definition through the exhibition “Sonya Clark: We Are Each Other,” on view at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD).
A private tour with MAD’s foremost expert on the exhibition is included for a full exploration of Clark’s works. The exhibition includes some of her most iconic projects that are centered on community and viewer participation.
A lunch at Robert restaurant is also part of the day’s activities. Perched atop MAD Museum, the restaurant offers stunning views of Central Park and new American fare. After lunch, tour participants will board a private coach to Brooklyn for a visit to the atelier of designer Mary Jaeger for a viewing and reception of her newest exhibition, “Crossroads: Textile Intersections” featuring textile artists Ana Lisa Hedstrom, Jorie Johnson and Jaeger. This exhibition presents intricate hands-on textile work that examines age-old techniques reinterpreted in a modern format by artists who manipulate fiber. These artists first met at the first International Shibori Network Symposium in 1993 in Arimatsu, Japan and continue to collaborate by exhibiting their work here and abroad.
“We are excited to present this trip for those that love art, design, and of course, textiles” says WACH director Wendy Van Deusen. “The entire day will be filled with textiles that are not only beautiful, but meaningful and thought-provoking.”
Round-trip transportation from the East End and throughout the day will be provided by a private coach. The all-inclusive price for the event is $325 and tickets are available at wachamptonsny.org.
