The architecture students were tasked by their professor with designing a new life saving station that would accommodate the storage and training needs of a modern life saving station, with an eye to the history of how the 19th century station on Atlantic Avenue was designed and used.

To inform their design of a modern station, the students got a history lesson in the background of the Amagansett Life Saving Station from David Cataletto, a teacher and member of the historic station's board of directors.
