The East Hampton All-Stars continued their successful run in this year’s District 36 Tournament, which ultimately leads to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
Both of East Hampton’s baseball teams — its 10-, 11- and 12-year-old Majors All-Stars and 8-, 9- and 10-year-old Minors All-Stars — are advancing, or are on the verge of advancing, to their respective playoffs. The Majors All-Stars picked up a vital 1-0 victory over Southampton on Sunday at Pantigo Field which allowed them to finish second in Pool A and advance to the playoffs. Both East Hampton and Southampton finished pool play with identical 3-2 records, but East Hampton’s victory on Sunday gave them the edge to move on. When and where they will play was still up in the air as of press time, but being the two seed in Pool A, East Hampton will play the top seed from Pool B in a single elimination playoff. As of Tuesday morning, North Patchogue-Medford was the top seed in Pool B. Additional information on the Majors baseball team, such as names of players, was not provided.
As for the Minors All-Stars, they were 3-1 as of Tuesday morning with their final game to be played Wednesday against Riverhead at Stotzky Park. A win in that game would advanced East Hampton to the district championship for which a day, place and time had yet to be set as of press time. East Hampton picked up victories over Southampton, Sag Harbor-Bridgehampton and North Shore American, with its only loss to North Shore National.
Scotty Abran, William Babinski, Ryan Balnis, James Balnis, Alex Bobeck, Kix Bock, Walker Bohnsack, Casey Carney, Conner Cashin, Jackson Cook, Owen Diamond, Baron Hildreth, Griffin Page and Dylane Sheades all make up this year’s Minors baseball team. Chris Carney is the manager of the team assisted by Scott Abran and Chris Diamond.
“Our team has been led by offensive contributions from the entire roster, but the stellar play of catcher Ryan Balnis, shortstop Alex Bobek, and pitcher Scotty Abran, has been especially key,” Chris Carney said.
As it has in recent memory, East Hampton also entered a pair of softball teams, Majors and Minors. The Majors team played North Shore in the District 36 Championship on Friday at Pantigo Field and lost, 13-3. Britton Bistrian, who managed this year’s team, said the North Shore team was quite impressive, with some players already playing on their local junior varsity or even varsity teams, and a pitcher who threw 60 miles per hour.
This year’s Majors All-Stars included Grace Balnis, Clemens Bistrian-Emptage, Dylan Centalonza, Lola Dangin, Talia Hogg, Caroline Kelley, Cadence Page, Alexa Schaffer and Jolee White.
The East Hampton Minors softball team wound up getting a first-round bye after Eastport-South Manor dropped out, then lost, 12-2, to North Shore this past Saturday in the double-elimination tournament. The Minors defeated Riverhead, 18-4, on Tuesday evening to advance to the district championship on Wednesday against North Shore. East Hampton would need to defeat North Shore twice in order to claim the district title.
East Hampton's Minors Softball All-Stars include Callie Amicucci, Merrit Bistrian-Emptage, Cameron Dawson, Kiana Dias, Ella Field, Jackie Geehreng, Ashlyn O'Donnell, Allison Rade, Evelyn Royal, Laila Sanders, Maya Scammel, Maeve Tupper and Cameron Tuthill.
