The Amagansett School District’s treasurer, Tom Mager, spoke at the October 8 meeting, saying that the board is “committed” to spending $900,000 to get the reserve funds down to the allowable 4 percent. It is currently around $1.7 million.
This is for a school that needed to let go four special education teachers, to cut spending, while piercing the cap only to now keep hiring “noninstructional” positions, which have already equaled salaries (not including benefits) amassing $350,000. This is not adding in the fact that we have a second gym teacher.
Dana Kalbacher was, for a lack of a better term, “demoted” from her secretary position by a resolution on October 24. Could this be because she was Maria Dorr’s secretary? Kalbacher’s day two testimony in the Maria Dorr hearing didn’t pass the board approval? Not to forget, we are still paying Maria Dorr this year her $204,000 salary. Got to love FOIL responses.
As well as, to the best of my knowledge, taxpayers are paying for Dorr’s hearing, hearing officer, the school attorneys and even Dorr’s attorneys.
The school that needed to save is spending like a freight train with no brakes.
Still here.
