Gloria M. Sanlorenzo
Gloria Sanlorenzo of Montauk died at her home, surrounded by her children, on Tuesday, April 19, after recently being diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was 84.
Born Gloria Marie Ferrara, on October 16, 1926, in Princeton, New Jersey, she was the youngest of 11 of children of Ernest and Anna (née Starace) Sanlorenzo. She attended Princeton High School and later graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing in Trenton as a registered nurse. Mrs. Sanlorenzo’s first job was at the Princeton Community Hospital, where she met Ernest A. Sanlorenzo, the love of her life; later she worked at Huntington Hospital in the town where she lived after getting married. Together the couple raised four children, making Huntington a place they all considered home.
After the passing of her husband in 1992, she moved to Montauk and turned their vacation retreat into her idyllic seaside home. Mrs. Sanlorenzo was an integral and vital part of the Montauk community. From reading to the children at the Montauk Library, to singing in the choir and arranging the flowers for the altar at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church, to baking breads for the Montauk Village Association, she was always willing to give more than she took. Her random acts of kindness have rippled out and touched many lives to “The End,” survivors said.
Mrs. Sanlorenzo is survived by her four children, Laura Sanlorenzo of Virginia, Nina Hartman of New Jersey, L. John Sanlorenzo of Ohio, and Candida Sanlorenzo of California; a brother, Vincent Ferrara of Georgia; seven grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Visitation was held Saturday, April 23, at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. A funeral Mass was held Monday, April 25, at St. Therese of Lisieux Church in Montauk. Interment followed at Fort Hill Cemetery in Montauk.
Memorial donations to the Fighting Chance, P.O. Box 1358, Sag Harbor, NY 11963 would be appreciated by the family.
