In the nick of time for the summer season, the Seawater Spa at Gurney’s Montauk Resort just got a serious upgrade — to the tune of $20 million.

Last week, the Montauk fixture unveiled its new spa following an expansive two-year renovation focused on holistic wellness, innovation, and sustainability, tapping some of the leading partners in the spa space, most notably Alonso Designs, the team behind Manhattan’s Ancient Baths, and skincare and treatment expert Dennis Gross.

“We are excited to unveil our reimagined spa,” said Michael Nenner, executive vice president of Gurney’s Resorts. “The new facilities and treatments available not only elevate the wellness experiences available out on the East End, but also help to cement the Hamptons as a true year-round wellness oasis.

“I think I speak for the entire Gurney’s team when I say that we couldn’t be prouder of our work on this project,” he continued. “We’ve revamped the entire Gurney’s Seawater Spa with a completely new look and feel, and we think our guests are going to be thrilled with the new experience.”

The 30,000-square-foot wellness destination is home to the only ocean-fed seawater pool in North America, and features a full bathhouse experience — including a caldarium, thermae baths, dual frigidarium, sauna and aromatherapy steam rooms, a salt room, and a curated indoor/outdoor fitness space with cardio and weight equipment, a movement studio, and areas for activations and activities.

“After the challenges of the past couple of years, we’ve learned how important prioritizing wellness is,” George Filopoulos, owner of Gurney’s Resorts, said in a statement, “and we are happy to bring this completely new and elevated experience to the Hamptons.”

Architect Ignacio Alonso, the principal of Alonso Designs, reimagined the seaside spa, designing it with the ocean in mind, complete with indoor/outdoor treatment suites overlooking the Atlantic — further underscored with a custom-designed infinity drain that blurs the edge between the sea and spa water.

“The spa’s connection to the ocean, and the inspiration we drew from the ocean, is evident from the moment you walk in,” Nenner said. “The interior of the spa was inspired by our natural beachfront surroundings, with design elements specifically chosen to drive attention to the stunning views. The interiors feature natural materials and earthy tones, playing into the colors and textures of the unique local environment.”

Aligned with the property’s mission to elevate the Hamptons’ overall wellness experience, the spa offers facials, skincare treatments, massages, body wraps, masks and more, with booked treatments all providing access to the pools and bath house facilities, which have been redesigned with sustainability as a priority.

The new spa further advances Gurney’s commitment to lessening their impact by utilizing filters that reduce water waste, energy-saving heating systems, and the use of UV to limit the need for harmful chemicals while efficiently purifying the water.

“The new spa maximizes performance and efficiency, all while helping reduce our overall environmental footprint,” Nenner said. “With our close ties to the local environment and to the ocean, we are committed to preserving its natural beauty.”

In addition, the renovation also introduces a new event space on the panoramic roof of the Seawater Spa, The Spa Deck, which offers unobstructed ocean views and is available for weddings and large events, as well as spa memberships, which start at $17,500.

“We believe the spa will turn the Hamptons into a true wellness oasis, not just a beach destination,” Nenner said. “With wellness trends on the rise in the hospitality industry, we envision the spa to be a haven where guests and local community members can restore their inner calm and feel like the best versions of themselves.”
